Almıla Akdag Salah studied at the Art History Department of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), focusing on technoscience art and its place in the art historical canon. She was one of the first Digital Humanities Fellows of UCLA. Upon completing her PhD, she became a Postdoctoral researcher with the Virtual Knowledge Studio (KNAW) – Knowledge Space Lab project, which contributes to the new research area of maps of science. Almila joined the Digital Methods Initiative (University of Amsterdam, New Media Studies) with a Veni grant on the online art platform deviantArt. She collaborates with Lev Manovich (University of California, San Diego), Albert Ali Salah (Bogazici University, Computer Engineering), Nicu Sebe (University of Trento, Department of Informatics) among others. She is the Netherlands Management Committee member for the FP7 COST project KNOWeSCAPE on knowledge spaces. She is associated with e-Humanities group at KNAW. She is a faculty member at the Department of New Media and Communication, Istanbul Şehir University and the Department of Information and Computer Science at Utrecht University.

Loughborough University Human Geography

Allan Watson worked as a lecturer of Human Geography at Staffordshire University between the years of 2008-2016. Since 2016, he has been a lecturer at Loughborough University.  Since 2014, Watson has been working as Associate Director of Globalization and World Cities Network (GaWC) in the field of cultural and creative industries.

He is a cultural-economic geographer with research interests that focus predominantly on the geographies of music and the musical economy, as well as film and media. He deals with geographical relations on cultural production, labor and consumption with sociological perspectives.

İzmir University of Economics Architecture

Aslı Ceylan Öner graduated from the Middle East Technical University Department of Architecture in Turkey. Öner has pursued her education and career in England and the USA. She has a master’s degree in City Space and Society from the London School of Economics and Political Science where she developed her core research interest of globalization and global urban networks. Öner also has a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Ball State University in Indiana, USA. She completed her doctoral degree in Virginia Tech in Environmental Design and Planning.

Öner’s core research interests are globalization, global urban networks, planning and governance of global cities, urban theory, metropolitan form and built environment, and comparative urbanization specifically between the US and European contexts.

Ghent University Social and Economic Geography

Ben Derudder is a Professor of Human Geography at the Department of Geography. He works as Associate Director of the Globalization and World Cities Network (GaWC). Ben’s researches focus on the conceptualization and empirical analysis of global urban networks in general, and its production and the role of transport and information technology infrastructures in world city network-formation in particular. He also has a keen interest in the prospect and pitfalls of using network analysis in urban contexts, as well as in the narratives and realities of putatively international geographic scholarship.

His most recent research focuses on the potential of alternative network specifications of the world city network, and modelling change and co-evolution in the world city network.

İstanbul Şehir University Sociology

Eda Ünlü-Yücesoy, PhD, Associate Professor at the department of Sociology and Senior Researcher at the Centre for Urban Studies in Istanbul Şehir University. She received BSc and MSc degrees from the department of City and Regional Plannning at Middle East Technical University and PhD from Human Geography and City and Regional Planning at Utrecht University. Her research and publications are focused on social, economic, and cultural geography, urban history, urban planning, public space, and spatial transformation of Istanbul in the 20th century.

Kadir Has University Director of Istanbul Studies Center

After graduating from Istanbul St. Joseph French High School, Murat Güvenç received his BSc and MSc degrees in City and Regional Planning from the Middle East Technical University, His doctoral study on industrial geography in Istanbul was awarded with METU Mustafa Parlar Foundation Thesis Award. Güvenç joined the Architectural Design Master Program at the Istanbul Bilgi University in 2005. Between the years of 2006 and 2011, he taught Urban Sociology and Data Analysis as a guest lecturer in the Sociology Department of Bogazici University.

He has published works on data visualization, urban geography, sociology and institution history. He is the co-author of Turkey Real Estate Bank 1926-1998 Institution history and Turkey Selection Atlas between 1950-2009. Prof. Dr. Güvenç has been working as the Director of Istanbul Studies Center at Kadir Has University since November 2014.

İzmir Institute of Technology City and Regional Planning

Koray Velibeyoğlu graduated from the Department of City and Regional Planning at Dokuz Eylül University and completed her master’s and doctoral studies at the İzmir Institute of Technology. He is a lecturer in the Department of City and Regional Planning in the İzmir Institute of Technology and he also held various administrative positions.

Development strategies, smart city studies, urban design theory and practice, knowledge management, asset-oriented local development, spatial development, local development, sustainable life strategies, city technologies are the areas of work. He was the coordinator of “İzmir Peninsula Sustainable Development Strategy” projects.

Marmara Municipalities Union Secretary General

He completed his undergraduate education at the Public Administration Department of Gazi University Faculty of Economics and Social Studies. He took his master’s degree on Marmara University Local Governments and Decentralization Program and Beykent University International Economic and Political Business Administration Program. He completed his Ph.D. in Marmara University Local Government and Decentralization Program. He continued post-doctoral language and finance studies in the UK.

He started his business life in Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 1995; he worked as an Auditor, Director of Expenditures, Head of Financial Services Department, member of Executive Committee as well as the Chairman of the Board of Belbim Co., Bimtaş Co., and Istanbul Transportation Co. Since 2014, he has been working as Secretary General of Marmara Municipalities Union.

Justus-Liebig University Giessen Department of Geography

Prof. Hennemann received his BSc in University of Hannover Department of Business and Economics and MSc in Department of Economic Geography of same university. He is a faculty member and lecturer in the Justus-Liebig University Giessen Department of Geography.

China, Germany and the European Union countries are the focus regions in his studies. Economic geography, technological changes, innovation systems, regional policy development, network analysis methods are his expertise area.

Turkish Statistical Institute Head of Demographic Statistics Department

Dr. Canpolat Graduated from Middle East Technical University, Department of Environmental Engineering in 1994. She received her master’s degree in Environmental Engineering Department from Middle East Technical University in 1998 and a Ph.D. degree in Technical Demography from Hacettepe University Institute of Population Studies in 2008.

She has several studies like aging of the population, the demographic and economic impact of aging, brought about by an aging population risks and opportunities, the analysis of the age of notification errors in the census, the current status of such households where the elderly population in Turkey and forward-looking projections, population and household projections, depending on traffic accidents in Turkey calculation of the lost person-years, standard risk analysis and maps of traffic accident statistics, population and population policies in Turkey. She is a founding member of the Demography Association and a board member of the 2007-2008 period. Since October 2012, he has been working as Head of Demographic Statistics Department.
